Dr John P. Mills
John achieved his PhD from the University of Birmingham in 2015 and works as a University Lecturer alongside his role here. His research focuses on how values, virtues, norms, practices, identities, and psychosocial mechanisms combine to regulate both individual and group behaviour. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and has twenty years experience of working as a coach, teacher, and now lecturer. Outside of work, John has been married for 13 years and has two sons under five which keep him busy.
Half a Yard Programme Lead
Kyran graduated from the University of Essex in 2021 with a Masters by Dissertation. He also has a first class honours degree in Sport and Exercise Science (BSc) and was awarded ‘Dissertation of the Year’ for his research. His main area of expertise is coaching effectiveness in youth sport – particularly football. Beyond his bachelor and masters level qualificiation, Kyran also hold a Level 3 NVQ Diploma in ‘Supporting the Delivery of Physical Education & School Sport’, and a BTEC Level 3 Award in ‘Employment Awareness in Active Leisure and Learning’.
Steering Board Member
Henry splits his time between working here, studying for a PhD (part-time), and working as the Head of Player Analysis Training at Football Radar (full-time). He has a master’s with distinction in sports coaching, an undergraduate degree in sports development, and multiple industry qualifications. For example, PFSA and FA awards in Talent Identification, and a UEFA B license in coaching football. His expertise lies in talent identification and developing scouting efficacy within football.
Steering Board Member
Tristan currently works as Head of Rowing for a private school in London alongside studying for PhD at University of Essex. He holds a BSc (Hons) in Sports Coaching and an MSc in Professional Practice in Sports Coaching from the University of Gloucestershire. Prior to his current role, he has coached internationally for Great Britain and Denmark alongside national performance roles in the UK and Australia. Within his PhD he currently studies coach-athlete relationships, culture in elite sport, and ethical coaching in performance sport programmes.
Nancy brings a wealth of experience in managing human resources for large organisations (e.g., NHS trusts, insurance firms, building societies). Her role within the organisation is to advise on HR protocol and to provide governance over the mission and purpose of all of our activities.

Sam is due to join the team in September to work on our GvD project. He is also a professional gamer with Audacity Esports team.
